Step into Blaster's Guesthouse: the Hong Kong Hearththrob & Lausanne Chef takes you through everything from Jiangxi Thrash Metal to Japanese city-pop
Step into Blaster’s Guesthouse this week: crammed full with City Pop dreams & jagged rap realities. Trust us - there’s some serious crate digger’s delights here.
It’s often hard to make out Hong Kong Heartthrob Blaster’s words, as it’s all too easy to be mesmerized by his charisma. So it’s a minor miracle we could secure a few choice words from him about his selections:
‘For my own enjoyment, I have a running playlist of E&SE Asian artists that I add to almost daily. So for my guest playlist, I present to you a hand-picked selection of music from the personal stash. The songs I picked range from Japanese 70s/80s city pop and Jiangxi thrash metal to American-Vietnamese hip hop and Balinese gamelan music, and everything inbetween. I’d also like to give a special shoutout to the video game music in this playlist, crafted by some fantastic Japanese composers. These infinitely loopable songs have played no small part in informing my musical palette, and no doubt many other geeky E&SE Asian artists’ too.
At any given EM event you’ll often find me at the front, among many other EM patrons, going ape-shit and losing my mind to the textures and sounds being spun by the artist on stage. I hope you find that same energy and enter some fugue state listening to this playlist too.’
